Black & White Challenge: Day 10 ~ My Own Choice

My Water Marble attempt actually made me realise that I shouldn’t be so scared to try messy things, and gave me the courage to try something I’ve been wanting to do for ages – a splatter mani! To really capture the Black & White theme I decided to go for a grey-scale ombre, and splatter over that.

The result is certainly not something I would wear while visiting my gran or going for a job interview, but I think it’s fun, and I like it!

Polishes Used:

  • Nina Ultra Pro French White (thumb)
  • Collection 2000 Angel Wings (index)
  • Barry M Grey (middle)
  • Bourjois Bleu Asphalte (ring)
  • Nina Ultra Pro Black (pinky)
  • Nails Inc Augustus Street (splatter)
  • GOSH Holographic (splatter)

That’s it! That’s the whole challenge over! It has been so much fun :) Thank you Mateja and Colorfulbottle for coming up with this great idea!

Black & White Challenge: Day 9 ~ Water Marbling

I have never done a water marble before, can you guess? :p I always found the thought of water marbling a bit scary and daunting, so when I had to do one for the Black & White Challenge, I approached with caution.

The colours I used for my marbling are China Glaze White On White, China Glaze Black Diamond, China Glaze Whitecap and Models Own Black Swirl, over a coat of Nina Ultra Pro Black.

While I don’t think the outcome is totally dreadful, I can’t say I find it all that fab either haha! At least now I have seen that it’s not as scary as I thought, so I will definitely try it again in the future!

Only one day left of the challenge now!

Layering: OPI ~ Big Hair… Big Nails, with OPI ~ Gold Lang Syne

Big Hair… Big Nails is so hard to photograph! I did the best I could with my measly photography skills, but the true coral tones are lost I’m afraid! Never the less, I think this jelly and glitter layering looks quite pretty, I hope you think so too!

I started with 2 coats OPI Big Hair… Big Nails, then did a little gradient with OPI Gold Lang Syne, which is just your run of the mill gold glitter in a clear base, and finished off with a final layer of BHBN.

I think I might stamp something over this!

Black & White Challenge: Day 8 ~ Sponging

I love a sponged gradient – I think it’s a quick and easy way to add some interest to your nails. For today’s theme I decided to do a gradient French and add black details.  My design is heavily inspired by a beautiful image I first saw on Pinterest. You can see it here.

I started with three coats of China Glaze Innocence, which is a lovely, sheer pink, perfect for a French manicure. Then I sponged white acrylic paint over the tips, and painted black “flowers” with a detail brush and black acrylic paint.

Black & White Challenge: Day 7 ~ Black & White with Glitter

Who doesn’t love glitter! This was a great opportunity to bring out my favourite glitter Sinful Colors Nail Junkie again. It’s just gorgeous! This time I thought I would try it mattified over black.

I started with two coats of Nina Ultra Pro Black and painted my tips with Sinful Colors Nail Junkie. After regular topcoat (Seche Vite) I mattified my nails with ELF Mattifying Top Coat. Finally I added white dots with a brush and white acrylic paint.

Black & White Challenge: Day 6 ~ Coloured Base with White

Soooo… this post is a little late. I should have posted day 7 yesterday, that’s how late I am. And I don’t have any valid excuses! I’ll post day 7 tomorrow, and then I’ll be back on track and hopefully finish strong :)

The theme for this day’s design is as you can see from the title “coloured base with white”, and I thought to myself, if one colour is good, two must be better. And if two is better, four must be even MORE betterer. So I hereby present you with my multi coloured and white design! (See end of post for a step-by-step)

Step-by-Step:

  • I started with a coat of a plain nude-ish colour (Nina Ultra Pro Caffe Latte)
  • Then I blobbed on lots of colours in random patterns until my nails were covered. The colours I used were green (Barry M Spring Green), pink (Revlon Bubble Gum), blue (Color Club Wicked Sweet – which smells amazing!) and yellow (17 Go Go).
  • Then I wrapped my tips with the different colours and sealed with a top coat.
  • When this was dry I stamped over with white polish using Bundle Monster BM211.

Barry M ~ Emerald Green

I don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s day, but as my boyfriend is partly of Irish descent it seems suitable to at least sport some green here on the blog. As if I need an excuse to wear green!

This shimmer is Barry M Emerald Green, and it went on beautifully in two coats.

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya and all that. Hope those of you who celebrate St. Patrick’s day have a good one!

ABOP Inspired Polka Dot French

ANOTHER Bottle of Polish?! is one of my all time favourite nail blogs. Her manicures are always creative, and her nails look fantastic. A couple of days ago she did this super cute mattified polka dot mani that I completely fell in  love with.

ABOP also does a lot of nice, funky French manis, and I decided to go all fangirl and combine the two in this polka dot French.

I started with two coats of Nina Ultra Pro French Pink and painted a French with a pink colour from 17 that I don’t have the name of sadly (it looks a lot like OPI Pand-monium Pink), and then I added white dots with acrylic paint. Finally I mattified the whole thing.

I hope you like it as much as I do!

And here is a picture of how it looked before mattifying it.

V-tape

I created this mani by taping diagonals over my Purple and Green Layering and painting with Nina Ultra Pro Black. A quick and simple way to add new life to a mani, don’t you think?

Black & White Challenge: Day 5 ~ Coloured Base with Black

For this theme I decided to go with a loosely China-inspired design. I had a few plates with Chinese characters, or that’s at least what I presume them to be :) Either way, they are pretty! I picked some oriental feeling colours too; I went with an emerald green (Barry M Emerald Green) and gold (GOSH Gold)

The characters were found on the Bundle Monster image plates BM203, BM221 and BM225

Black & White Challenge: Day 4 ~ White Base with Some Colour

I picked another plain white crème for this design; China Glaze White On White. I don’t think it’s all that good if I’m honest, but the wear is decent. I painted three coats with plenty of time in between each one, and I suppose that’s ok. I really don’t like my crèmes to need more than two coats though, white or not.

After painting my base I sponged different colours on my tips and added nail art tape and little gems. The colours I used were all China Glaze; Index: Blue Sparrow, Middle: Purple Panic, Ring: Tree Hugger and Pinkie: Flying Dragon.
