St. Andrew’s Day ~ Latha Naomh Anndra

Today is Scotland’s national day, also known as St. Andrew’s day after the patron saint, so of course I had to do a saltire manicure to celebrate my adopted second home!

The white polish is Kleancolor ~ Metallic White, and the blue is China Glaze ~ Blue Sparrow. The saltire X is done with sellotape, and the french tips freehanded.

a-England ~ Tristam

I think a-England ~ Tristam is a very pretty, if a bit bland, polish. It has beautiful scattered holo through it, but in my opinion it makes my nails look a bit too much “denim”. It’s not that it’s not pretty, it’s just not my cup of tea.

The oddest thing happened when polishing with Tristam, which is very evident from the photos. The polish didn’t adhere properly to my tips! It looks as if I have a couple of days’ tip wear, when my nails are in fact freshly polished. I have never had this happen before, and if anyone knows why, or how to prevent it, I would be most grateful :)

The Swamp Beast Goes Partying

One of my absolute favourite blogs is Chaosophia’s One Inch Nails. About a year ago she was showing pictures of Kleancolor Firework over a murky green base, and it looked amazing. One of the comments on the post made me laugh so hard – one girl said the mani looked like “the swamp beast goes partying”.

Now don’t judge me too unfavourably, just because I don’t have those mad polishing and photography skills that Chaosophia does, but I had to try to copy it somewhat.

My base for this is Kleancolor Military Green. I clearly need practice placing my glitter. Let’s just say the swamp beast was already a bit drunk when he decided to glam up.

Pink Flowers over Purple Gradient

Well, the title says it all, doesn’t it? A simple gradient with stamped flowers :)

The base colour is Nina Ultra Pro ~ Dark Secret, and the gradient over the tips is sponged on China Glaze ~ Flying Dragon. The stamping is done with Kleancolor ~ Pastel Pink, and the image plate used is Bundle Monster ~ BM16.

Stamping Sunday: Over a Blue Base

This Sunday’s stamping challenge over at Adventures in Stamping is to stamp over a blue base.

I thought I would do something slightly nautical, and picked China Glaze First Mate as my base, and stamped a cloud or wave pattern in white over it, with a pattern from Bundle Monster BM312.

Stamping Contest Entry

Creative Nail Design by Sue is hosting a nail stamping contest, and this is my very simple design that I came up with.

The base is three coats of OPI It’s Sheer Luck, and the stamping is done with Kleancolor Metallic Green. The pattern is from Bundle Monster BM309. I mattified the whole thing with ELF Matte Finisher.

Hope you like it!

Sparkly Green Layering

I fancied something really fun today, and green glitters are about as fun as it gets in a bottle. The base colour is Barry M Spring Green, and the glitter polish is Kleancolor Holiday Jingle. The drying time was a bit of an issue with the glitter, next time I will thin it down a bit before using it. It was ok to apply, but did require some “placing” of the glitter. I used two coats of Holiday Jingle.

Happy thanksgiving to my American friends today :)

Giraffe Print

Giraffes are plain awesome, don’t you agree? There is something special about an animal that is 90% neck. Kind of puts swans to shame. Plus they have this super cool coat pattern going on.

The base for this mani is Nina Ultra Pro Cafe Latte, and the stamping is done with GOSH Chocaholic. The pattern is from Bundle Monster BM313.

Black and White French

Today I have a simple little stamping French for you. The base colour is Models Own Black Swirl, and the stamping is done with white using Bundle Monster BM220.

I really like Black Swirl. Very nice formula and brush, and the shimmer means it’s appropriate for days when your inner goth needs a rest.

I would love to get your opinion on something – when you see a non-swatch photo, do you prefer for the bottle to be in the shot or not? The two images above aren’t great for judging this on, but I’d love to know what you prefer!

Liquitex Acrylic Paint from Born Pretty Store

I have been looking for a substitute for my Windsor & Newton acrylic paints for nail art. Although the paint is really good for art, it is also quite expensive, and I find it’s not ideal for nail art. I want a highly pigmented paint that can be diluted enough to do fine details, without having to water it down so much it loses it’s adhering qualities.

I was given a chance to try out the Liquitex brand from Born Pretty Store, and I’m very very happy with the paint.

The paint comes in a 75 ml squeeze bottle with a flip cap. I like the flip cap a lot. One problem I always have with conventional paint tubes, is that the cap gets stuck. That doesn’t happen with this type of tube.

The paint is very fluid without being runny at all. It mixes well with my other paints, which is good, since I’m planning on using them until I can get a few more Liquitex shades for nail art.

Here is one design I made using the Liquitex fuchsia together with white for the flowers:

You can buy the Liquitex acrylic paints from Born Pretty Store, who offer free world wide shipping.  The paint sells for $6.70 per tube. Born Pretty Store also sells sets of acrylic paints, and I’m thinking of getting one to try out.

If you want to get something from the shop, be sure to use the code below for 10% off your purchase :)

Stamping Sunday: Some Aspect of Matte

I love contrast in nail art, especially matte/shiny. Rather than using a proper matte polish for my design for this week’s Adventures in Stamping, I picked a suede. Suede finishes are among my absolute favourites, and Nails Inc Augustus Street is a gorgeous, grey/mink polish that I just love. I thought it would be nice to pare it with a shiny or metallic stamp.

Over my Augustus Street base I stamped with GOSH Silver, and plate Bundle Monster BM316.

China Glaze ~ Starboard

You can’t go wrong with green, you just can’t. Especially when it’s a beautiful, slightly dusty grass green crème.

China Glaze really got it right with Starboard. Two coats for a perfect finish.

Kleancolor ~ Metallic Mango

Here we go with another Kleancolor swatch. I got this polish mainly to stamp with, and it works really well for that. It also went on very nicely as a full nail colour, with two easy coats.
